October 2023

I think October this year has been very well documented so this will be a short monthly summary. I’ll leave you to trawl back through the Blogtober posts if you want to read it all!

Crochet

This month I have made, fixed, finished, or started:

·       I washed and dried my homemade jumper for the first time with minimal stretching, so I’m proud of that

·       Finished the manta ray

·       Made a pair of search and rescue socks for David

·       Made the worst thing I’ve ever made, a little dolly. I utterly hate it.

·       A new woollen hat in SAR colours for David

·       Started a pair of pink and cream gloves

·       Started a bigger dolly, which I also don’t like

Craft club was good, lots of happy people making stuff. And then it all kicked off because one person said nasty things and has taken themself from the group. And now they want to come back. Hmmm.

I had two sales in my little Etsy shop! Wahooooo!

This month (November) I am trying to focus on finishing lots of projects because I have lots of dismembered bits of things strewn around the place.

Cat Life

Pippy is on half diet food, I have mixed it in with his normal food. He wasn’t very happy with me to begin with but he’s settled down again now. He doesn’t sleep on my tummy anymore but he does still sleep on the bed with us, down the middle.

Allotment

I paid up my ass fee for the year so I am a plot holder for another year. I have been busy putting down black plastic double or treble thickness on the paths to kill the grass off. I need to get paving slabs and gravel to go on the top, but that means money. I have been harvesting raspberries all month (and eating them within seconds) and also lots of parsnip and carrots. I have also planted just over 100 baby onions so I’m hoping for a good harvest next year.

Exercise

I still don’t exercise. I am trying to walk more at work. I worked out that most of the driving I do for work is journeys less than 0.6 miles, which is perfectly walkable. So I am trying to walk more.

Physical Health

A downside to all of this walking is that my right knee doesn’t like it, and nor does my sciatica riddled left hip. I really need to find a yoga or pilates class. And then actually go.

Mental Health

Hasn’t been too shabby! I am being strict with my work hours because it would be incredibly easy for me to do two hours overtime every day without realising, and I don’t get paid overtime, and I like finishing at 4pm. So I am being strict about doing so.

Work

I had a week off in October, our annual birthday week off. It wasn’t the week I’d hoped for but we did have [literally] a couple of hours at the seaside.

Money

A downside to not driving on all my little work journeys is that I don’t get mileage for walking.

Garden

We flooded this month, the first one of the season. A good four months early. The heuchera seems to have survived though so that’s good news. I haven’t planted any of the things or bulbs that I got for my birfdi and I need to.

Other Stuff

It’s been a month of good beer and pizza and being stressed about crochet. I have also had three new vinyl records arrive, so now the time has come to buy a new box. And then start filling it. David will be pleased!

I feel really confused about what I’ve actually done because I did daily blogs and have lost track of life and photos.
