Lockdown v3: Day 55

Another few hours up at the allotment(s) today. Momma P and I have mostly emptied the old shed, tipped over and emptied the water butts ready for moving, taken up the tarps and bricks and redeployed them on the new plot, and started cutting down the grass and the plum trees. The plum trees are going to become a dead hedge thicket at the top/back of the plot to thicken up a patch of trees.

Saw my first bumblebutt of the year today!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Not much else to report really. Came home. Did the laundry. Did the washing up. Did the vacuuming.

Lined both of the little planters today so they are ready for the next stage of life. They are going to a friends house to be decorated and varnished.

Still loads to do on the plots. 31 now needs to be dismantled – all the raised beds, polytunnel, compost bins, archway, bird feeder etc. 16 needs to be dug over (I am going to hire a man wot can) and then general faffing to get things where I want them.

I have spent most of this afternoon pricing up materials to build my own bespoke handmade shed. It’s hella expensive. Like, £220 just for the slabs. Hmm. Maybe we shan’t.

Exercise today: allotment. David said that he was going to start running in March and well, it starts tomorrow. I however have made no such claims so I shall stay on my bum.

Dinner today: big fat roasty toasty.

Please enjoy this little video of my collection of mariachi band solar bobblers in the kitchen:

February makes. Forgot to include the whittled crochet hook wot I gone and did

Lockdown v3: Day 54

Four hours up at the allotment today!!

I did:

·       Finished the cabbage cage

·       Fed the birds

·       Watched a wren

·       Built and meshed the arch

·       Put the arch up

·       Tidied the shed

·       Helped Momma P to move some compost

·       Spoke to the site secretary and now I am moving plot!! I have now got a plot on the top road, so after 11.5yrs on the bottom road, I am MOVING. So all the things that I have built this week now need to be unbuilt, and moved.

Sigh.

Nevermind, I did say last year sometime that I was going to ask about a plot on the top road. The downside is that I have until the end of March to move everything I want moved, so all of my spare time will now be spent on the plot, dismantling and moving stuff!

The new plot is very tussocky and uppy downy but it is a blank canvas, and an opportunity to do things proper. For example, some of my beds are 6ft square and they’re just too big, so this is a chance to think about bed sizes and make them smaller etc.

Exercise: 1.5mile walk, plodding around the plot.

Dinner: pizza. Yeah.

David bought me a bunch of flaaaaaaars which are now in the fox vase. Alstromeria, apparently.

Not a fat lot else today. Four hours in the sun was GREAT though. Really, really GREAT.

My new plot :-) This will be the third plot I've had on this site in 11yrs!

Lockdown v3: Day 53

Not much to say today.

Forgot to say I made orange cake with orange juice and orange zest and then I made cinnamon icing and grated more orange zest onto it. Gurt lush.

The cars were frozen this morning but I’ve spent a lot of money so it’s ok. Payday wooooooooo! Nabbed me a new mini greenhouse in Wilkos – looked EVERYWHERE for one last year and couldn’t get one anywhere but for £15 it was too good to leave behind. Also bought another arch to go up on the allotment, so that’s tomorrows job. Momma Pat and I parked behind the park and walked through the greenery to get to the shops so we've done a bit of walking today.

Not a lot of piccies today.

Poundland hibiscus twig has leaves now.

Avocado is growing well and the leaves look healthy

Started making the crochet rug and have had to steal more yarn off Momma P. I want to not buy more but I think I might need to. Hmm. I have ordered more alpaca wool to make myself a pair of socks!! The luxury.

Dinner tonight will be posh fish n chips with mushy paes.

Lockdown v3: Day 52

I left the house today!! Went out in my toot toot car!! Went to the allotment!!! Saw a green woodpecker!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

25 radish seedlings. Sowed peas today in the garden planter.

Pak choi are growing well in their tub.

Loads of iris have opened!! Very happy. I am already planning what bulbs I am going to plant this coming autumn. Basically more of everything. I planted well over 500 bulbs last autumn so another 500 would be good.

On the allotment:

·       Topped up bird feeders

·       Watched the birds

·       Heard and saw a green woodpecker – added to my 2021 bird list

·       Took the cross beams off the brassica cage, cut the verticals down shorter, put the cross beams back on, added the rest of the cross beams

·       Put the mesh over the cage and stapled it

·       I need to go back and do the lifty-uppy-flappy-access bits but it is a two person job

·       I was going to sow seeds but couldn’t be arsed

·       Garlics are growing well in three beds. More is more, right?

·       Harvested a plant pot full of sprouts from Momma P’s plot

·       Almond and quince are coming into bud

·       Flower bed is full of crocus and itsy bitsy teeny weeny yellow (non polka dot) daffydilly

I was absolutely knackered after the allotment – I am SO UNFIT. So unfit.

Today I have sorted out cotton and yarn for my next couple of projets. I am making a rug and a secret something else.

Have had the back doors flung open today

Made a glass of orange juice by squeezing a load of oranges! The big ones were going soft and squidgy, and the small ones weren’t good for peeling. So I squeezed ‘em.

It was 33.5° in our kitchen today according to the thermostat

Exercise today: 2.2miles walking, leg & hip stretches

Dinner today: beige with beans. A freezer dinner.
